THE TURTLE AND THE LOTUS

“We don't receive wisdom; we must discover it for ourselves after a journey that no one can take for us or spare us.”                                      ― Marcel Proust

One of the things I love most about this life is being able to recognize meaning in almost everything. It's like the Universe has a language and when you learn to speak it, your experiences become richer, deeper, and more extraordinary.

I use the Turtle and the Lotus Flower in my logo for the meanings they convey. Turtle represents the need and ability to retreat within. It is about going inside - looking at the internal more than the external. It represents what meditation is all about for me. I love the quote by Neale Donald Walsch- "If I do not go within, I go without." That's what the Turtle says to me...

As for the Lotus Flower, it's a beautiful flower that arises out of it's muddy home. In the Buddhist place of thought, the muddy waters represent attachments and desires and the flower rises above to bring beauty to the world. The Lotus represents purity of body, speech and mind.

I wove the lotus with the turtle because, through meditation, we learn to release expectations and to let go of attachments and desires. It's not that we don't have desires, however the desires are simply that. Happiness, peace of mind, is not dependent on achieving or having the desires. This is a free place to be.

One might even suggest as the Lotus represents enlightenment, it is through meditation, adopting the manner of the Turtle, that we move closer and closer to this state of being.
